The Pregnancy Gods are Always Fair

So I read in one of my books that the pregnancy gods are always fair. Meaning that if you're lucky enough to miss out on one not-so-fun aspect of pregnancy, you will definitely be cursed with another. Well, the author was not kidding.

I must confess that the first two trimesters almost made me cocky. I didn't have morning sickness, fatigue or cravings. It was a breeze! I thought, this is no big deal. Well, the third trimester is here and boy was I on crack.

Not only am I tired, but I'm now enjoying such things as massive fatigue, heartburn, too-tight maternity clothes and snoring (although I think that's something that Papa Tigger gets to enjoy). Just yesterday, I glanced down and to my horror, realized that I've been cursed again. This time with bloating and swelling. When I looked down, I realized that I couldn't see my ankles. I have cankles (where your ankles are so fat there is no delineation between your ankles and calves)! I had to take a picture just to prove it! I wish I had a 'before' picture to go with this 'after' picture, but you can just picture lovely, slender ankles as my 'before.'

It's Becoming Real

As Papa Tigger blogged below, our discussion with the doctor during the sono made us realize that if complications arise, Tigger could arrive earlier than we expected. Although everything is fine now and we expect everything to continue being fine, the reminder of that possibility made us both realize that we could have a baby on our hands very shortly.

Which is why I think I had a "poop" dream last night. We've already heard stories from our friends w/babies about blowouts, projectile poop and other bodily fluids. So we feel we have been warned. I think all those stories manifested themselves into my dream last night of me changing a diaper and poop being everywhere. It was on the baby, the floor, me and I was screaming at Papa Tigger to come with reinforcements (i.e. his two hands and more diapers).

Hmmm, let's hope this is not a premonition.......

Sono #5

We got to see Tigger again today - all is well! We are now entering an interesting period, given Mama Tigger's blood pressure. Apparently, there is risk in how much blood flow exists to the fetus. Also, the depth of the amniotic sac is also of concern. So, starting in 2 weeks, we have to have weekly monitoring of these two things. Mama Tigger loves being so "special"...

And without further adieu, all 4 lovable pounds of Tigger (still at the 48% percentile in terms of size and weight and now growing 1/2 lbs a week!):

Unfortunately, s/he wasn't being cooperative enough for a 3-D photo, though the technician offered to 3-D his/her butt!

Nesting Part II

I am keeping a running log of these now - even created its own tag. Mama Tigger and I are heading to the National Mall for the weekly Screen on the Green. Mama Tigger is gettin' prepared. On the couch is:
  • bug spray (a necessary evil in DC)
  • blanket (good thinking)
  • cooler with water & vitamin water
  • 2 chairs (and a blanket?)
  • chips & salsa (in case "we" get hungry)
  • freshly baked chocolate chip cookies (this trend, I like)
and the reason for the post:
  • Sunscreen
It is 7pm already, and the movie of course is shown in the dark. But the new and improved "nesting" version of Mama Tigger thinks we need to have it with us "just in case..." Funny stuff!

Week 31

The baby is growing 1/2 a pound a week!!

The Nesting Has Begun!!!

Mama Tigger woke me up this morning by staring at me, around 9am. I quickly learned that she had been up since 6am, and had made some decisions...

First, she didn't like the rug we bought yesterday for the nursery - too dark (though I must confess I agree with her). She also decided on new accessories for our bathroom. And of course, she had a slew of new stores that we had to go to today...

Oh the joy of impending parenthood!!! I thought we were going to eschew this modern maternity materialism? I guess you can only hold out so much...

Nursery progress

So, this probably seems like a minor thing, but I'm going to call it progress nonetheless. Papa Tigger and I have been on a tear lately working on the house. It's not just 'nesting' and getting the nursery ready. We're making improvements all over the house. This is for two reasons: 1) we finally sold our house in Texas and have now given ourselves liberty to put some money into our (fairly) new DC house, 2) I'm in town now every single day (!), so I have a lot more time to focus on the house (and nudge Papa Tigger).

But since this blog is about Tigger, I'll limit my exclamations of joy to the nursery improvements. We bought blinds yesterday and since they really are Next Day Blinds, we got them today to hang. Here's the latest progress - blinds in the nursery:

Yeah!!

More work on the nursery!

Well, the nursery is definitely coming along! We finally got the missing part from JC Penney and put the crib together. And this weekend G-Ma and G-Pa T came for a visit to help us make more progress. It's hard to tell in the pictures, but the walls are a nice pale yellow.

Here's the crib with the crib mattress (thanks again Mom) and the glider. The glider turned out a little lighter than I thought, but it still works with the yellow:

And the nightstand table that will be the changing table. G-Ma T and I picked out some purple fabric this weekend. She's going to make curtains for the window above the changing table:

And the fan G-Pa T helped Papa Tigger install. There used to be just a bare light bulb there!

Thanks again G-Ma and G-Pa T for all the help!

Week 30

From DC - home at last...

Week 29

From Austin - it's getting bigger....

Practice, Practice!

Since the pregnancy travel embargo starts soon, I finished my last week in Boston (for work). Then, Papa Tigger and I traveled to Austin to see the family one last time. We were also in town to have an early birthday celebration for our adorable niece SweetPea, who will be two later this month. We made sure we got plenty of SweetPea time, since she's so adorable (and we need the practice)!

On Friday, we took SweetPea to the park (all by ourselves!!). She had lots of fun. Here's SweetPea with Papa Tigger:

A quick break to let Mama Tigger clean dirt out of her shoes:

More fun with Papa Tigger:

Heading home, holding Papa Tigger's hand:

On Saturday, we headed to the local water park, where Sweet Pea had lots of fun. She loves water!!

The water park included a lazy river with serious water sprays. Here's Papa Tigger and SweetPea's Mom trying to protect SweetPea from the sprays:

Towards the end of our visit, SweetPea was getting ready for her nap. That's the only explanation we can think of for her trance-like fascination with the water......

Papa Tigger and I laughing at her fascination:

I got worried she might dunk her head....

But no, she's still staring....

She's getting lower...

And she's finally moved on to something else.

We thought we did a pretty good job with SweetPea Saturday morning, though we were tired out. Here's Papa Tigger that afternoon:

Overall, it was a good weekend. Here's a final pic of SweetPea playing with Papa Tigger. We had fun too. Thanks to SweetPea's parents for letting us spend the weekend with her!

Sono #4

We got to say hi to Tigger yesterday. It seems the croissants and baguettes treated him/her well. S/he is on target in terms of growth - 2.5 lbs. of love so far!

And a face:

Paris

So, we're a little late in posting our Paris pics, but here they are. Papa Tigger, Tigger and I spent two weeks in France (we returned about a week ago). I had to go to Paris for work and we added a week on for vacation.

Here's Papa Tigger and me at Notre Dame:

And me and Tigger at the top (well, more the middle) of the Eiffel Tower:

Me enjoying some crepes. The food was so good there!!

Here's the onesie we bought Tigger; even though s/he won't remember his/her time in Paris, we thought it was a cute keepsake:

After Paris, Papa Tigger and I headed to the French Riveria. Here's Tigger and me enjoying the water:

In St. Tropez, there was some sort of kid's carnival going on. Can you believe we found Tigger in France?!?

Papa Tigger and me at one of the lovely sunsets:

Finally, me and Tigger on the plane, heading home:

Week 27

We are back in the US and will be posting more soon. In the meantime, here is week 27's pic - the last week of the 2nd trimester! Yeah!
