Elvis Hands

Tigger, Tilly and Trip are definitely all related! Everyone has commented on how much Trip looks like Tigger and/or Tilly when they were babies. Trip is napping now and has the trademark 'Elvis Hands' each kid has had. Here is the proof:

2 Week Checkup

We're going to have to start calling Trip Chubbs. She has really been filling out and today's doctor's appointment confirmed she has been growing. Her stats were:
    • Weight: 7 lb 12.5 oz
    • Length: 20 5/8 inches
    • Head circumference: 14 inches
Yes folks, she's put on a whole pound in two weeks. Already growing so fast!!

First and Second Bath

Last week we gave Trip her first bath. As expected, she protested a bit but was calm and happy by the end.

I also have to post a picture of her second bath. Tigger and Tilly are obsessed with Trip's baths. Unfortunately they missed her first one because they weren't behaving so had to go to bed without participating. They were so disappointed - is it wrong we've found a new incentive to bribe them with? They were very excited to watch her second bath and have asked a couple of time already when her next one is.

Family of Five

We are all getting used to being a family of five. Things are a little more loud and hectic, but we're figuring it out. Trip is happy in her crib - she's tiny now but will quickly grow to fill it!

Tigger and Tilly are great with Trip. Tigger has been very cute - asking if Trip wants to play with his toys or if she's going to eat dinner with us. And Tilly likes to burp her - always asking 'I burp the baby?' And through it all Trip just sleeps. She's still in that newborn-sleep-all-the-time stage which will probably end soon...

We've pulled out a few things for Trip - the crib mobile and activity mat. Tigger and Tilly love it - it's something new to play with! Here they are enjoying the mobile with a little dancing:

Coming Home

Yesterday we brought Trip home.Yeah - we were so ready to leave the hospital. The staff was great but we were ready to get home!

We got her dressed in the standard going home outfit all the kids have worn. She cried while we were changing her but then quieted down and fell asleep before we were even home.

Off we were!

The whole family is home!

In the Hospital

Trip arrived into the world loud and proud on June 2nd!

Here she is getting her measurements:

After the craziness of delivery, we settled into the recovery room for an always-interrupted night of sleep. We wanted to leave on Sunday, but since Trip was born so late in the day on Saturday and they wanted to monitor her for 24 hours, we settled in.

On Sunday G-Ma and G-Pa T brought Tigger and Tilly by the hospital for a much needed visit. They were a little intimidated by the new environment, but were curious to see their new sister.

Trip's here!

Born yesterday at 9:35p - 6lbs, 12oz, 20in. No name yet.

The trip to the hospital was, well, a trip. We left the house around 6:15, with contractions around 10 mins apart. The doc had told us to "make our way in, take a shower, grab dinner.". Our plan was to grab a bite at a nice restaurant across the street from the hospital.

We decided to Metro, because "we could." There is a stop right next to the hospital and another about 7 blocks away. The farther one is quicker to get to (a different line, about 8 fewer stops). We went to the farther one, thinking the walk would do us (her) good.

By the time we got off the train, contractions jumped to about 5 mins apart. So, no nice dinner - take out burgers it is! We got our food and headed up, around 7p.

While registering, the L&D nurses informed us that we couldn't bring food back! So, we had to scarf our food in the waiting room. Good times.

Once all registered, Mama TT had to be examined to confirm she was in labor. She was at 5cm around 7:45 (she was 3cm the day prior). It was confirmed - labor was on!

We hung out in the exam room until around 8:20. They then moved us to an L&D room. Around that time the contractions kicked up to 3 mins apart. Mama TT had decided to go without pain meds - au natural. Good thing because I don't think there would have been enough time.

Since we were here with Tilly, a midwife practice has joined. So, the nurses are well versed in the strategies of a natural birth. They helped Mama TT "try" to get comfortable - exercise ball, rocking, etc. Around her 3rd position, she was on her hands and knees on the bed.

"I think we need a check," said one of the nurses. About 10 seconds later there were around 10 people in the room - at least 3 docs. There was brief discussion about getting Mama TT on her back. Too late.

The pushing began with her still on her hands and knees. Mama TT shouldn't be ashamed to admit that she screamed. A lot. Fortunately it only took 5-6 pushes to get her out.

Baby Thomas was born at 9:35p - a healthy baby girl weighing in at 6lbs 12oz, almost a full pound heavier than her sis, and 2 pounds more than her bro... A beautiful feat for both mom and daughter.

Day of labor

Wanted to insert a quick post about the day of labor leading up to Trip's arrival. On Friday, the doctors wanted to induce but we decided to give her the weekend. What a difference 24 hours makes!

The contractions started Friday night. Overnight I woke up almost every hour with the contractions. Saturday morning they were 30 minutes apart. I downloaded a nifty iPhone app to track the contractions and we went about our day running errands - Petsmart for dog food, Costco, etc. By lunchtime at Costco the contractions were 15-20 minutes apart so we decided to head home.

Saturday afternoon the kids took a nap and Papa TT and I decided to run to the grocery store to stock up on food. G-Ma and G-Pa T were around and offered to go, but I wanted to do something productive while I still could. So off we went. I'll never forget standing in front of the beer with Papa TT. A contraction hit and I told him 'Oh. Ow. OK, let's get out of here.' And with his sense of humor, he decides to be funny - 'Hmm, what kind of beer do I want? Let me think.....'

By the time we got home it was late afternoon and the contractions were 10 minutes apart. The doctor told us to make our way to the hospital - no rush but to head in. The rest of the story is above as told by Papa TT.....

Week 40

Another checkup today - fluid was 8.0. The doctor was about to let us go home then noticed a drop in the baby's heart rate (we do a non-stress test along with the fluid check). He sent us to the hospital for more monitoring so I spent 2 hours on the fetal heart monitor. The doctors there didn't see anything that concerned them but did encourage us to think about inducing since I'm now 40 weeks and have a history of high blood pressure.

We decided to give Trip the weekend to decide to make a showing on her own. Otherwise we go in again on Tuesday and will likely induce then - doctors don't like women with high blood pressure to go too long past their due date and I'll be nearly a week past at that point.

Until then we wait some more.....
