Cuteness

Here are a couple of random videos we shot today of Caleb's cuteness. First is us hanging out on the bed, just chatting:

And here he is napping:

Caleb's Likes and Dislikes

Even though Caleb is still pretty young, glimmers of a personality are starting to show. He lets us know what he does and does not care for. Here's what we know so far about our little Tigger:

Loves
  • Eating

  • Being held

  • Being swaddled
Doesn't Mind
  • Baths

  • Dirty diapers
Hates
  • Having the dirty diaper changed

  • Having his clothes changed

All the expert baby books (see list at right) say that babies learn to smile around 6 weeks, so hopefully we'll start seeing more of his personality soon!

Caleb meets Aunt Meghan

Last weekend, Caleb got to meet his Aunt Meghan. Here they are getting to know each other:

And here they are saying hello:

In the evening, when we were enjoying a glass of wine, Caleb started lifting his head while Meghan was holding him. She did a good job holding on to her wine:

Happy One Month Birthday!!

Saturday was Caleb's one month birthday and he celebrated by hanging out with his Aunt Meghan and taking in some of the nation's finest museums. He visited the National Gallery of Art and the Musuem of Natural History.

In honor of his birthday, here are some pictures to show how much our little man has grown! Here he is at birth:

And at one month:

He's getting so big! Notice the chubby cheeks and bigger belly? We go to the pediatrician next week and we'll post his new weight. Papa Tigger and I are guessing it's around 7 or 8 pounds!

The Roll Over

Caleb decided to roll over today (with a little help from daddy)...

Not bad for only 4 weeks old!

More Multi-tasking

As Caleb spends more and more time awake, Papa Tigger and I are learning to multi-task with him. Here are some pics of us reading with Caleb. Even though his eyes are closed in these pictures, I can assure he was awake and talking until just before we snapped them:

And here we are out and about in Georgetown with Caleb (multi-tasking with a cupcake run at the very popular Georgetown Cupcake). You can see Caleb's new hat that we got since it's still sunny and warm in DC (even in late September). I'm not sure what he's doing with his face, though. I don't think he liked the help from Papa Tigger to pose for the camera.

So Tiny!

Even though Caleb is eating and growing like a champ, he's still so tiny! Here's a picture I snapped last night of Papa Tigger and Caleb on the couch. See how Brandon's hands go all the way around Caleb's chest!

Caleb's Face

Since feeding is such a big part of Caleb's (and my) life right now, we shot some video of him before and after a feeding. He's getting so expressive with his face!

Here he is waking up hungry:

And a brief burping session afterwards:

And finally, some random pictures:

Holy Cow!

We went to the doc's today, and Tigger gained 1 lbs, 6 oz in 12 days! He is now 6 lbs, 3 oz. And, he grew almost 2 inches, getting to 19 7/8 inches... Wow.

Rough Afternoon

We've been pretty lucky so far that Caleb isn't too cranky or fussy, but I think that's starting to change. He's beginning to emerge from his newborn-sleeping-all-the-time phase and making Papa Tigger and me work a little more.

I did the 5 am feeding this morning and for some reason, Caleb was pretty chatty (well, grunting is more like it) after I laid him back in his crib. At about 7 am, I gave up trying to go back to sleep and got up. Papa Tigger and I then went to church, where Caleb was very popular. By the time we got home, ate and fed Tigger again, I was exhausted. So I retreated upstairs to take a nap while Papa Tigger and Caleb watched football.

We're guessing that Caleb is going through a growth spurt, because Papa Tigger kept feeding him and feeding him and he was still hungry. I woke up from my nap and we fed him some more, finally satiating him with almost 6 ounces (he usually takes 3 - 4 ounces). Here is Caleb, finally full and asleep, with Papa Tigger who is likewise worn out.

More Videos

Sorry it has been a while since our last video post. In fact, we hadn't even posted this one yet - it's a few shots of us coming home with Tigger for the first time:

And this impressive feat:

A note on the pics, both Mama Tigger and I are aware that we have very few pictures of Mama Tigger with Tigger. We realized this evening that the reason is because Mama is usually feeding our lovely little boy when holding him. We will work on some more blog-appropriate shots and get 'em up soon...

He's awake!!

Since birth, Caleb has been in a newborn-sleeping-all-the-time mood, so most of our pictures have been of him slumbering peacefully. He was surprisingly awake the other day, so we caught a few moments with his eyes open (I'm sure there will be a lot more of that in the future!).

Here are some pics showing his beautiful eyes:

This last picture has nothing to do with Caleb being awake, but I wanted to post it since Papa Tigger posted pics of my first pee encounter. Here is Papa Tigger feeding Caleb with evidence of his own pee encounter.

Now that Caleb's umbilical cord has fallen off, we should be able to get the diaper on a little more snug.....

Tummy Time

As some of you may know, tummy time is very important for little babies. It helps them develop lots of key motor skills including lifting their head and crawling (among other things). Caleb is already starting to lift and move his head, so we decided to try some tummy time.

The first attempt at tummy time wasn't very successful. When we put him down, he stayed there, face down:

Being good parents, we quickly moved his head to the side so he could breath. He then promptly fell asleep.

Papa Tigger got more involved with the second attempt, and we were rewarded with a little more awake time from Caleb.

Multi-tasking

Here are a few pics of Papa Tigger multi-tasking with Tigger. Here he is on the phone:

And here they are watching football together (I'm not sure Caleb is all that into it yet):

Tigger's First Bath

A few days ago, Papa Tigger and I gave Tigger his first bath. Since his umbilical cord hadn't fallen off yet, it was just a sponge bath. He pretty much slept through the whole thing...

Here he is afterward, all bundled up in his Tigger robe:

Black & Whites

G-Ma & G-Pa T were in town this weekend, and actually got to hold Caleb this time! They cooked up a storm, and cleaned the house for us. We didn't get to hold Caleb much, but it was great to have them.

G-Pa brought his new digital camera and took some great pics. Below are a few that I converted to black and white - thought they were kind of neat. Enjoy!

Week #1

It was Caleb's 1-week birthday yesterday! My, how much he has changed already.

Less than an hour after birth:
Yesterday:
He is eating like a horse - doubling his intake every day or so. Crazy how this all works!

Coming Home Pics

Here are a few pics of our first trip home.

Guys Night Out

I have a standing happy hour with a few friends in DC on Thursday night. Last Thursday we did it virtually, due to Caleb's early arrival.

And lastly, mine:
I can still have fun with the guys, even with a kid, right?

First Doc Visit

We went to our first Pediatrician visit yesterday. All is well! Caleb is gaining weight - he is almost 5 lbs already! He gained 3 oz in 24 hours. Good boy!

We're Home!!!

And tired. He is sleeping in his crib - oh so tiny in oh so big a space...
Room to grow, I suppose...

He Passed!!!

Caleb passed his hearing test this morning... Yeah! Mama Tigger and I were never worried. Ok, we were worried.

Next up - the car seat challenge. We should have him home in a few hours...

More Pics

I am slowly making my way through the photos. Here is tonight's installment, before we are off to another feeding.

One of my favs so far. Notice the hands - the reason we weren't able to get good sono pics, as he often chose this pose in utero:Me & Caleb, getting to know each other:

Pee #1

So, Mama Tigger changed her first diaper. And this was the result:

She apparently didn't have the diaper on tight enough, and Caleb peed on her. The first of many such episodes, I am sure...

Update: Out In the Open!

It still looks like Tigger is coming home tomorrow - yeah! He is now in the bassinet - ain't he cute!

The note was from our nurse, reminding us to change him before we feed him. The whole "parenting lite" thing we have been operating under is going by the wayside. We now have to change diapers! I suppose it had to come sometime...

One small note - he had his hearing test today as well. He passed in the left, but not yet in the right. Hopefully he does not take after his old man :). He is going to be re-checked again in the am, before we leave. They said it most likely is due to fluid remaining in the ear canal. We shall see...
